# How to ask an AI what an object in front of you is

Source: https://0xr.space/m/how/ask-ai-what-an-object-is-with-your-camera
Published 2026-10-20, updated 2026-10-20, by ZeroXR, the maker of Model Explorer (https://0xr.space/).

Open a model at 0xr.space, press View in your space on a Meta Quest 3 or 3S or an Android phone with ARCore, then press Zero on the dock and ask: what is this? While you speak, and only then, Zero looks at what the camera sees. It answers aloud in the language you speak, and you can go on: what is it made of, find a 3D model like it.

The camera has to be allowed already; on a Quest that means Headset cameras for Browser. Its answer can be wrong, so check anything that matters. It sees the room, not the 3D model you have open. Zero is a free preview with a daily allowance.

## Steps

1. On a Quest 3 or 3S or an Android phone, open a model at 0xr.space and press View in your space.
2. Make sure the camera is allowed. On a Quest, Scan on the dock asks for it: tick Headset cameras, then Allow.
3. Press Zero on the dock, allow the microphone, look at the thing and ask what it is.
4. Ask more, or say find a model like it to search the Gallery and your device.

## Questions

### Does Zero watch all the time?

No. Zero looks only while you are talking to it, and not while you are silent.

### What does it send and keep?

See the privacy page at https://0xr.space/privacy/ for what the camera features send and keep. 3D files you open are not sent.

### Zero says it cannot see. What do I do?

The camera is not allowed, or on a Quest only Virtual cameras were allowed. Turn on Headset cameras for Browser in the Quest's Settings, under Privacy & safety, then ask again.

### Does it work in VR or on a computer?

Not while you talk: Zero looks only where you see the room through the camera. It can still take a look when a question needs it, if the camera is allowed.

### How is this different from Scan?

Scan draws named boxes and makes a 3D model of the thing you press. Asking Zero only gives an answer.
