# How to convert an OBJ or FBX to a single GLB file

Published 2026-10-20, updated 2026-10-20, by ZeroXR, the maker of Model Explorer (https://0xr.space/).

Open 0xr.space, press Open and choose the model with what it needs: an OBJ with its .mtl and images, a .gltf with its .bin and textures, or an FBX, SketchUp or STEP file. On Home, open the three-dot menu on its card and press Download GLB. Every part, material and picture goes into one .glb, packed on your device. Downloading needs an account, made with your email address and a 6-digit code.

The GLB holds what the viewer read, nothing more. An FBX's animation and packed textures are not read, so they are not in it, and an OBJ keeps only its diffuse colour, transparency, shininess and diffuse texture. A texture that was not chosen stays a file name, and the notice counts it. An OBJ has no unit and keeps its numbers as metres. Splats cannot be downloaded.

## Steps

1. Keep the model and its files in one folder, or zip them together.
2. Open 0xr.space, press Open and choose all of them, the folder or the ZIP. If Some files are missing appears, press Choose files and add the ones it names.
3. On Home, open the three-dot menu on the model's card and press Download GLB.
4. If it asks you to sign in, enter your email and the 6-digit code sent to it. The .glb then downloads, named after the model.

## Questions

### Are the textures inside the GLB?

Yes, every picture that was found. One that was missing keeps its file name in the GLB, and the notice reads, for example, Downloaded chair.glb. 1 picture was left out.

### Does it keep a glTF's animation?

Yes. A glTF or GLB is packed as it was stored, animations and compression included. FBX animation is not read, so an FBX's GLB is still.

### Can I turn a STEP or SketchUp file into a GLB this way?

Yes. Every format the app opens is stored as glTF, so any of them downloads as a GLB, except splats and point clouds.

### Why is my OBJ's GLB huge in another viewer?

An OBJ has no unit. The app guesses millimetres or centimetres when it shows a large one, but the GLB keeps the numbers as metres. Scale it in the other tool.

### Is anything uploaded?

No. The GLB is packed in the browser from the copy on your device. Only a share link you create sends a model to a server.
