# How to open an OFF mesh file online

Open 0xr.space, press Open and choose the .off. The text format is read in the browser, with faces of any number of corners split into triangles. COFF's vertex colours are kept, written from 0 to 1 or 0 to 255, NOFF's normals are used and 4OFF's fourth coordinate is divided out. You can turn the mesh, cut through it or place it in the room on a Quest.

OFF has no unit, so its numbers are read as metres; a model from a dataset in other units opens at the wrong size until you scale it. Per-face colours and texture coordinates are skipped, and a mesh without colours is drawn light grey. Binary OFF is not read, only the text kind. Nothing is uploaded.

## Steps

1. Download the .off from the dataset, or save it from MeshLab or your own code.
2. Open 0xr.space on the computer, phone or Quest browser, press Open and choose it.
3. Open Info to read its size, and scale it if the dataset uses other units.
4. Press View in your space to place it in the room on a Quest or an ARCore phone.

### Which OFF variants open?

Text OFF and its prefixed kinds: COFF with vertex colours, NOFF with normals, STOFF with texture coordinates, which are skipped, and 4OFF, combined in that order, such as CNOFF.

### Why is my model huge or tiny?

An OFF file has no unit, so the numbers are read as metres. Scale it by hand to the size it should be.

### Why are the face colours missing?

Colours written after a face's corners are skipped. Colours written on the vertices, as COFF does, are shown.

### Can I convert it to STL or GLB?

Yes. On Home, open the three-dot menu on its card and press Download STL or Download GLB. Downloading needs an account.

### Is my file uploaded?

No. It is read on the device, and nothing is sent to a server unless you create a share link yourself.
