# How to open an FBX file without installing anything

Open 0xr.space, press Open and choose the .fbx, together with its texture images if they sit beside it. The meshes, their hierarchy, units and colours are read in the browser and shown as a model you can turn, cut through, pull apart or place in the room on a Quest or an ARCore phone. Nothing is installed or uploaded.

It reads binary FBX, which is what Maya, 3ds Max, Blender and Unity write by default. A text (ASCII) FBX is refused with a note to re-export it as binary. Animation and skinning are not played: a rigged character opens in its bind pose. Textures packed inside the FBX are not read; choose the image files with it.

## Steps

1. If the FBX came with a textures folder, keep it, or zip the FBX and its images together.
2. Open 0xr.space on the computer, phone or Quest browser.
3. Press Open and choose the .fbx and its images, or the ZIP. If a texture is missing, the app names it and lets you add it.
4. Inspect it, or press View in your space, then Scale and 1:1 Size, to see it at the size it was modelled.

## Questions

### Why does my FBX say it is a text file?

It was exported as ASCII FBX. Export it again as binary FBX, the default in most tools, and open that.

### Does it play the FBX animation?

No. A rigged model opens in its bind pose. For animation, export a GLB, which plays here.

### Why is my FBX untextured?

Its textures are embedded in the file or were not chosen with it. Choose the image files beside the FBX; embedded ones are not read.

### Is my file uploaded?

No. It is read on the device, and nothing is sent to a server unless you create a share link yourself.
