# How to view a MagicaVoxel .vox model in VR

Open 0xr.space, press Open and choose the .vox, then press View in your space on a Meta Quest or an ARCore phone. Each voxel becomes a cube 2 cm across in the file's palette colour, and a scene of several models keeps its layout, rotations included. Only the outside faces are drawn, so a solid model stays light enough for a headset.

A scene over 2 million voxels is refused with a message giving its count. MagicaVoxel's materials are not read: glass, metal and glow all draw as plain palette colour. The 2 cm size is fixed; scale the model by hand if your voxels stand for something larger or smaller.

## Steps

1. Save the model in MagicaVoxel and copy the .vox to the device, by cloud drive or USB for a Quest.
2. Open 0xr.space in the Quest browser, the Model Explorer app, a phone or a computer.
3. Press Open and choose the .vox.
4. Press View in your space and set it on a table or the floor; grab it to turn it.

## Questions

### How big is it in the room?

Each voxel is 2 cm, so a model 64 voxels wide is 1.28 m across. Scale it to fit.

### Why are my glass and glowing voxels plain?

MagicaVoxel's materials are not read. Every voxel is drawn in its palette colour.

### Is there a size limit?

Yes, 2 million voxels in the whole scene. Past that the file is refused rather than left to freeze the page.

### Is my file uploaded?

No. It is read on the device, and nothing is sent to a server unless you create a share link yourself.
