The Chauchat Machine Gun, officially designated as Fusil Mitrailleur Modele 1915 CSRG, is a historically significant but controversially received French light machine gun that was primarily used during World War I. Introduced in 1915, it is notable for being one of the first automatic rifles to be massproduced and issued to frontline infantry units. Designed by Louis Chauchat and Charles Sutter, it featured a distinctive crescentshaped magazine.
